“On several
occasions we had to remind ourselves that it was all real
and not something out of a travelling paraglider’s
fantasy.”

The 2009 autumn flying season in Bir was
our best yet. We ran two pilot safaris and as ever the
clients and guides had the time of their lives, with wild
vol-bivouacs , luxurious organised skycamps, big routes in
the high mountains and consistently fantastic flying. In
between trips we managed to pioneer some new routes, with
John making it to Keylong over the Rohtang Pass, and Debu,
Jim and Eddie (not forgetting Mike and Wolfgang) going to
Manali and flying back the next day.

A
particular highlight was a very successful trial run of
tandem safaris for non-flyers. We had three guinea pigs,
one from the USA and two from the UK. We tested two routes
- one to Dharamsala and back the next day, the other to our
fully catered skycamp. The trips were so successful and the
guinea pigs so impressed that we have decided to run
organised tandem safari trips in 2010.
